A Brief Introduction to the Atheist...and A Call to Action

Greetings Existentialists, Anarchists and random passers-by,

I created this blog as a kinder, gentler introduction to atheism. I don't care what you believe in, but something has driven you to seek answers beyond what you know, or to seek kindred spirits. We will not attack you for believing in theism, if you do, and we are happy to engage in civil discussions on these topics.

Religion and non-religion are touchy subjects for many, and I see no reason for them to be so. Yes, a deep discussion can shake the foundations of a lifetime of conviction, but that isn't a bad thing. That can lead you to seek answers within your own (or another) spiritual faith and thereby, strengthen it for your own self-benefit, or it can lead you into something new and maybe even wonderful. Many theists see atheism as frightening, because there isn't that assurance of the hereafter, and many also believe that it leads to demoralization. I believe the opposite to be true; with only one shot at existence, it humbles a person and causes them to approach others with more kindness than they otherwise would. Without a savior to pray to to alleviate them of their sins, they are more mindful of how they treat others, and how they treat this beautiful blue ball upon which we all live.

The truth is out there, and it is far more beautiful, strange and complex than any of us can begin to imagine. To cut it to fit the narrow scope of creationism does it a horrible disservice and is, indeed, a travesty in the humble opinion of this narrator.

(Note: When referring to blog posting,I say 'we' because I am one of two bloggers writing on this blog. Hereafter, most of my posts shall be done on a typewriter...cause that's what I do, and it will aid in differentiating between us. Besides different writing styles and subject matter too, of course.)

A Call to Action

Now then, onto the real reason I decided to awaken this long-quiet page from its' slumber. I have a very close friend in need of a kidney transplant. I have applied to become a donor myself, but in the event I am not a match, I want to do something to make certain she gets her transplant regardless. So I am putting out a call to the blogosphereto altruistic atheists, agnostics and people of faith alike to please help her. If you cannot donate yourself, please spread the message. She can be contacted directly through the Facebook page created in her honor. Thank you all, and may your journeys be mindful and peaceful, no matter what path you're on.

Welcome to MA.
